“This was never the story of one woman, or two. It was the story of all of them. A war does not ignore half the people whose lives it touches. So why do we?”

“They won’t want the brutal reality of conquest and slavery. They won’t want to be told about the massacres of men and boys, the enslavement of women and girls. They won’t want to know we were living in a rape camp.” “Humbling women seems to me a chief pastime of poets. As if there can be no story unless we crawl and weep.” Hello!
If you're reading this, then welcome to this small space I've dedicated to my highly unorganized thoughts about books. I started a bookstagram during the quarantine (link on the right) to kind of have a dedicated space to a hobby I've had since high school. It wasn't until the lockdown in March and the subsequent never-ending quarantine that I was really able to carve out some time and energy for reading again. The bookstagram came a few months later, though. By that time I had already gone through about 10 books and decided that I wanted a somewhat public space where I could share some insights and maybe find a community with a similar interest. I've yet to take the plunge and join a book club, but I'm eyeing a few. Anyway, I'm currently in a black hole of retellings of Greek mythology. And I have a lot to say about all the books I've read so far, which brings me to this new blog on my website (?). While I will continue to post on Instagram, I wanted to be able to put the reviews in a space that wasn't limited by a character count. I hate having to cut down my blabs into chunks to fit into the description and comments sections. It still fits my whole theme of travel, I suppose. Or maybe I'm just trying too hard to have everything integrated into one another. But given the whole COVID-19 situation, books (and movies and series and Youtube) are really the only ways I get to travel nowadays. And I suspect that'll be the only kind of leisurely travel I'll be doing for a while. So, here you have it: a sub-blog on books. |
